Long Time MBOA Member - Barry Plett

MBOA would like to acknowledge with profound sadness, the passing of long time member Barry Plett.

Barry, besides being a long time member of MBOA, also recently joined the Board of Directors, wishing to get more involved and to make a difference in the future of MBOA and its mission.  Barry held all levels of certification and attended all seminars and workshops. He was also very well respected by MBOA and those who knew him.  We will miss him tremendously.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.

MBOA Board of Directors

A message from Joe Kasprick, Municipal Relations, friend and colleague (December 22, 2021)

I was made aware of this news yesterday and spent the day and evening processing it. I was lucky enough to work with Barry and considered him a friend.

Barry was very passionate about being a building official and took great pride in his profession. He was everything that embodies what a building official is and should be. He wore his MBOA clothing with pride and proudly hung is CBCO designations in his office.

Barry enjoyed the spring and fall seminars greatly and took every opportunity possible to socialize and talk shop with other building officials from around Manitoba. He made sure that if you didn’t know who he was when he entered the room, that you damn well did when he left the room.

He went the extra mile to develop friendships with many of us and treated everyone with kindness and compassion.

Building officials like Barry are few and far between and when you meet one, you know that you’ve met someone special.

Barry will be remembered by beaming smile an will be greatly missed. I think it’s important that we recognize and remember both Jules Audet and Barry Plett at the upcoming spring seminar. The Code world took big loses this year…
